We want to smash the stereotypes surrounding aging and build a strong  community so that we can be loud, be heard and stay connected. Let’s celebrate life and all that’s in store for us, while being honest about the challenges we face. So join us today in a space where women own the conversation.

After retiring from her position as a Los Angeles high school principal in 1944, the award-winning educator began a second career that ultimately had a far bigger impact on society. She became an activist and organizer on behalf of other retirees and older Americans, fighting to improve their financial security, their health care and other services that they need. The Ethel is a digital-only publication that you can enjoy on a computer, smartphone or tablet.

AARP understands that to truly serve people 50 and older, we need to understand their unique experiences — and that includes the perspectives of women. Women over 50 are navigating distinct life stages, challenges, and opportunities, and we want to meet them where they are with content that’s relevant, supportive, and empowering. That’s why we’ve created dedicated resources — like this newsletter and website — to connect in a more personalized, meaningful way. With over 38 million members, AARP offers tailored programs for many communities, including veterans, caregivers, LGBTQ adults, Spanish speakers, rural Americans, and more. This is one more way we’re ensuring every member feels seen, heard, and supported.

You can send a link to your professional website, podcast, blog or portfolio of published work, along with your pitch, to aarpethel@aarp.org . Please put “pitch” in the subject line. We are ALWAYS happy to receive ideas. Because ours is a digital publication, we are looking for the honest, the personal and the surprising — but in pieces that are typically no more than 500 to 750 words. We want the uncommon, the stuff you don’t see everywhere else. (Always look at the newsletter before pitching.) We’re interested in the topics that interest you: sex, relationships, beauty, lifestyle, grandparenting, and how to stay relevant as you age.

Just contact us by filling out this form and please put “advertising” or “sponsorship” in the subject line to receive more information.

You’ll need to unsubscribe your old email address by clicking the button at the bottom of The Ethel newsletter that says "Unsubscribe from The Ethel newsletter" and then sign up with your new email address by filling out the form again.

View all the previous issues on our Newsletters page.

We hope you don’t, but if you really want to, click the "Unsubscribe from The Ethel newsletter" link at the bottom of the most recent issue you received.

Don’t forget to join The Ethel community on Facebook, where conversations are candid, supportive, and full of wisdom — because aging is better when we do it together. Created by women, for women, our voice is uplifting, inclusive, conversational — and yes, sometimes brutally honest. We’re here to tell it like it is, while lifting each other up.
