Week 2: Random Acts of Kindness
Even super simple everyday acts of kindness can help both the giver and the receiver feel happier. When was the last time someone did something nice for you out of the blue? Didn’t it brighten your day?

Activities for October 5-11

This week’s theme is Random Acts of Kindness, and we’ve created a set of activities to help you discover new ways to strengthen social connections. Just consider the research. Time and again, unexpected gestures of goodwill have been linked with lower levels of stress and anxiety. And the best part? Kindness is also contagious.

Feel free to try as many of this week’s activities as you’d like—whether that’s all of them or just one. The goal is progress, not perfection, and every step you take matters.

Give someone a compliment (friend, colleague or stranger).
Make someone’s day by being genuine and specific.

Tip: Compliment something in their control, like an outfit, an accomplishment or their energy. Research shows that we actually underestimate how much compliments mean to the receiver.

Tell someone you appreciate them and why.
Thank someone for the positive impact they’ve had on your life.

Tip: Focus on who they are, not just what they do for you. For example, “I admire how you can always see the good in people,” vs. “I appreciate that you always validate me.” It’s not about expecting a response back, but about you taking action to create little positive moments of interaction (even if it’s one-way).

Send a “just because” note or card to someone in the mail.
Who doesn’t love getting a surprise note in their mailbox?

Tip: Start with “I was thinking of you," mention your last interaction and end with a warm wish. It’s about creating a thoughtful moment, not expecting a reply.

Give a positive review of a local business online or even do it in person.
Reviews can make or break a business, especially small, local ones. So, say something nice — maybe their customer service is second to none — and it will be so appreciated.

Tip: If you’re not into online reviews, tell the staff in person. It’s often just as impactful.

Have someone over at your place for a low-key visit.
Having someone over is about building relationships, not being a flawless hostess.

Tip: Keep it casual—tea, lemonade, or a simple snack is enough. The goal is time together, not entertaining.

Bonus: Leave an encouraging comment on a social media post.
You never know how much a kind word online might mean to someone in the moment.

Tip: Thoughtful comments feel more genuine. Keep it specific and uplifting. Instead of saying, "Nice!" try "I love how creative this is" or "This brightened my day."
